MJHS has a dynamic volunteer program guided by compassionate and caring members who assist in enhancing the quality of life for patients and their loved ones. Volunteers are available for companionship, errands, respite care and bereavement support for families as well as visiting patients in homes, hospitals and nursing homes.
There are many wonderful volunteer opportunities:
Patient’s Home Visits: Visit patients in their own homes. Be a supportive listener, presence, confidant and friend. Provide friendly and compassionate companionship. Help with errands and light shopping. Allow family caregivers a brief time for respite.
In-Patient Unit: In an in-patient unit, hospital, residence, assisted living or nursing home setting, help the on-site hospice care team with general duties. Visit with patients and offer much needed respite to family caregivers.
Administrative: Provide clerical support by filing medical records, assisting with admissions, conducting research, and helping with mailings, community outreach and special events.
Bereavement: Support the bereavement department. Reach out to grieving family and friends. Lend a hand with support groups, planning remembrance services, grief education, and ongoing bereavement assessments, as well as patient, family, home and facility visits.
Community: Help us take our message to the community. Explain what hospice is and what it means to you. Tell others how it makes such a difference. Participate in outreach initiatives, such as health fairs, community workshops and local events.
