A few hours of your time can have a lasting impact on the lives of others.
Jacob Perlow has a dynamic hospice volunteer program. Guided by compassion and caring, our volunteers help meet the physical, spiritual and psychosocial needs of our patients and their loved ones.
There are many wonderful volunteer opportunities:
Patient’s Home: Visit patients in their own homes. Be a supportive listener and presence, confidant and friend. Provide friendly and compassionate companionship. Spend time reminiscing and looking ahead. Help with errands and light shopping. Allow family caregivers a brief time for respite.
In-Patient Unit: In an in-patient unit, hospital, residence, assisted living or nursing home setting, help the on-site hospice care team with general duties. Visit with patients. Be a supportive listener and presence, confidante and friend. Spend time reminiscing and looking ahead. Help with errands and light shopping. Offer much needed respite to family caregivers.
Administrative: Provide clerical support, by filing medical records, assisting with admissions, conducting research, and helping with mailings, community outreach and special events.
Bereavement: Support the bereavement department. Reach out to grieving family and friends. Lend a hand with support groups, planning remembrance services, grief education, and ongoing bereavement assessments, as well as patient, family, home and facility visits.
Community: Help us take our message to the community. Explain what hospice is and what it means to you. Tell others how it makes such a difference. Participate in outreach initiatives, such as health fairs, community workshops and local events.
